A number of community groups, some in collaboration with the NYC Parks Department and oftentimes with some measure of government funding, have put together a summer full of free summer theater in the parks. The free theatre events listed below are designed for young and old alike and they're FREE.

The duo have been been driving a car for repair that somehow got left behind. Will they make it to the train yards? ... The emergency is reflected in their dreams as they wait for rescue. In watery tunnels, the elements of Planet Earth now cry out for sustenance. This class brings together body, mind, and spirit in an energetic union of music, dance, and oral tradition of the people of West Africa. Participants will be taught regional songs and dances of welcome and praise such as; Lamban (Dance of Celebration), Mandjani (Challenge Dance), and Wolo Sodon Jon Don (Dance of Becoming Free).   • Sunday - Sunday, September 11 - 18, 2022 - Rent - Rent is a musical based on La Boheme, an Italian Opera written in the late 1800's and set in Paris about the life of struggling artists. In the play, Playwright Billy Aronson wanted to replace the aesthetic of 19th century Paris, with the grit and HIV epidemic of the late 1990's. He also morphs a traditional opera into a rock opera. He died of an unusual health condition [not HIV / AIDs] before the play became a resounding success. After Work Theater Group is a flexible, multi-space, traveling theater group that both produces and performs in a mix of free / not free productions, and they also do classes.

  • Location. Brooklyn Bridge Park is located along the East River underneath the Brooklyn Bridge and adjacent to the Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo neighborhoods of BK. The 7/22 performance is on the Harbor View Lawn. The eastern border of the park is the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, so there are limited entrances from the Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo neighborhoods. The Harborview Lawn may be accessed by crossing over the BQE at Middaugh Street in Brooklyn Heights.
